Jane Middleton (December 24, 1818 — July 30, 1885) was an English-born American philanthropist, one of the founders and superintendent of the first Home for Aged and Infirm Deaf-Mutes in New York City, located at 220 East 13th Street, from its inception in 1872 until her death in 1885.〔Thomas Gallaudet, Letter to the Editors, ''NY Evening Post'' (October 19, 1872), regarding the Home for Aged and Infirm Deaf Mutes.〕 ==Early life== Jane Middleton was born in 1818, the eldest child of Robert and Ann Middleton. Her father was a druggist, and the family lived in Manchester, England prior to coming to the United States in 1839.〔 〕
